WALT Release Notes

[2.0.0] - 2026-08-31

Voice conversations, smarter search, and a refreshed chat experience: WALT 2.0.0 introduces voice input and spoken responses, a Getting Started guide for new users, stronger access controls, and a wide set of chat and admin improvements — from bulk chat management to clearer messaging when content is unavailable.

Voice & Speech

Talk to WALT with your microphone

  • You can now ask questions by voice using the microphone button in the chat input.
  • Spoken questions are transcribed and sent like a normal message.

Listen to WALT's answers

  • WALT can read responses aloud.
  • After you ask a question by voice, the answer plays automatically.
  • Use the speaker control on any assistant message to play, pause, or replay audio.
  • WALT stops speaking as soon as you tap the microphone, so voice input is never competing with playback.

Getting Started

  • A Getting Started modal appears the first time you open WALT (or until you dismiss it).
  • The guide introduces WALT's main capabilities — knowledge search, document lookup, part number lookup, and log file analysis — with example prompts for each.

Knowledge & Documents

  • WALT can now answer questions about the latest, most recent, or as-of versions of documents.
  • When a part number is not found in service notes, spare parts lists, or instrument manuals, WALT now falls back to searching the full knowledge library.

Chat Experience

  • Select multiple chats in the sidebar to delete, move to a folder, or remove from a folder in one action, with confirmation before deletion.
  • While generating a response, WALT now shows a simple "Thinking…" indicator.
  • When WALT cannot answer due to individual user access, the message is now simpler and more actionable.

Security & Privacy

  • Personally identifiable information in your messages is now automatically detected and masked before processing.

Administration

  • A new Agent Registry section lets administrators configure WALT's specialist capabilities from the UI.
  • Managers can set how long access group invitations remain valid (1–90 days, default 30) when sending invites.
  • Administrators can promote an external user survey as a dismissable banner above the chat input. Users who dismiss it or follow the link will not see it again.
  • Destructive actions across admin pages and chat now use a consistent in-app confirmation dialog.
  • Admin pages no longer flash or reload when you minimize and restore the browser window.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where chats inside folders could disappear from the sidebar when a user had many unfoldered chats.

[1.7.0] - 2026-07-08

Worldwide service part number search fallback: When a part number is not found in the service notes, spare parts list, or instrument manual, WALT now searches all available documentation for the instrument.

Knowledge & Documents

Part number search fallback

  • When a part number is not found in service notes, the spare parts list, or the instrument manual, WALT now falls back to searching all available documentation for the instrument.
  • Improves the chance of finding relevant part number references across the full document set.

[1.6.2] - 2026-06-30

GEM log file analysis severity filtering: This patch refines which errors appear in GEM log file analysis reports, reducing noise from low-priority events.

Log File Analysis

Refined GEM error severity thresholds

  • GEM 5000 errors are now reported only at severity 5 and below, regardless of instrument type.
  • GEM 7000-specific errors are now reported only at severity 8.

[1.6.1] - 2026-06-08

GEM log file upload fix: This patch restores CSV and XLS file support for GEM log file analysis.

Log File Analysis

GEM CSV and XLS support restored

  • Fixed a regression where GEM log file analysis no longer accepted CSV or XLS files.

[1.6.0] - 2026-06-01

Reliability, chat experience, and smarter document search: This release fixes silent failures with clear error messages and retry support, prevents accidental deletions with confirmation dialogs, preserves custom chat names, introduces a new document search tool, enhances log file analysis capabilities, improves part number search prioritization, upgrades the underlying AI model, adds smarter guardrail enforcement, and brings new admin tools for managing suspended users.

Chat Reliability

Stop generation properly closes the connection

  • When you stop a response in progress, the request to the AI model is now properly cancelled on the server side, reducing unnecessary resource usage.

Clear error messages and retry

  • When a question fails due to a network or server error, the UI now clearly indicates the failure instead of showing a blank response.
  • A Retry action is shown so you can re-submit the same question without retyping it.

Chat name preserved after first question

  • Fixed a bug where a manually renamed chat would be overwritten with an auto-generated name after the first question was asked. Custom chat names are now preserved.

Chat Experience

Confirmation before deleting

  • A confirmation dialog is now shown before deleting a folder or a chat, preventing accidental data loss on all platforms.

Redesigned chat and folder management

  • Folders and chats now have a three-dot menu that exposes Move to folder, Rename, and Delete actions, replacing the previous drag-and-drop-only interaction.
  • Renaming a chat or folder is confirmed by pressing Enter or clicking outside the input — no extra button click required.

New icons and search

  • Updated icons for the create chat button.
  • The search chats button now opens a centered search window instead of displaying results in the sidebar.

Enhanced message search

  • Message search now uses fuzzy matching with markdown normalization, so results are found even when the text contains links, formatting, or partial wording.
  • Search term highlighting shows the exact match highlighted within each result preview.
  • Clicking a result navigates to the correct chat and scrolls precisely to the matching message.

New empty chat view

  • A refreshed empty chat screen centers the input and displays a friendly welcome message from WALT.

Knowledge & Documents

New document search tool

  • WALT can now search for documents across knowledge bases and return the specific files users are looking for, in addition to answering questions.

Part number search improvement

  • Improved the part number search tool to prioritize results from the spare parts list.
  • Ensures that users see the most relevant and serviceable parts first when searching by part number.

Log File Analysis

Expanded log file analysis support

  • Added support for GEM 7000 and ROTEM device log file analysis, expanding diagnostic coverage to additional instrument types.

Guardrails & Content Safety

Clearer rejection messages

  • When a message is blocked by content guidelines, WALT now shows a styled banner with a clear explanation instead of a plain text message.

Fairer policy enforcement

  • Off-topic questions no longer count as policy violations — only genuinely prohibited content triggers a strike.
  • The compliance check now uses category-based classification for more accurate and consistent decisions.

Administration

Suspension details for banned users

  • Administrators can now click the "Banned" badge on a user to view the full suspension timeline and the contributing policy violations, including the original blocked messages and the AI explanation.

Messages report improvements

  • A Select All option has been added to the exclude-users filter in the messages report for quicker bulk selection.

Performance

Upgraded AI model

  • WALT now uses Claude Sonnet 4.6, providing improved response quality and reasoning capabilities.

Faster responses with prompt caching

  • System prompts and tool definitions are now cached at the model layer, reducing response latency for repeated interactions.

Bug Fixes

Documents recognized on follow-up messages

  • Fixed an issue where uploaded documents were no longer recognized when asking follow-up questions in the same chat.

Duplicate profiles from variant email addresses

  • Accounts accidentally created with different capitalizations of the same email address are now automatically merged, and future logins are matched case-insensitively.

[1.5.0] - 2026-05-04

Clearer answers, better context, and refinements for mobile, permissions, and log analysis: This release makes WALT’s reasoning easier to follow, tightens how manager access is defined, shows document context from the true source, and improves log file analysis and small-screen use.

Chat & Reasoning

Easier-to-follow thinking

  • While WALT is answering, you now see higher-level reasoning steps phrased in a more user-friendly way, so it is easier to follow how the assistant is working through your question.

More forgiving messages

  • Short or partial phrasing (for example, “what is…”) is treated more naturally, without unnecessary pushback.

Administration & Permissions

  • Manager permissions are group-based: a user is a manager for the specific groups they are assigned to, not as a single global “manager” role for everything.

Log file analysis

  • Fixed an issue where log file analysis reports were not available to download right away after they were ready.
  • Removed the filter for empty cartridges so results are not incorrectly narrowed.
  • Additional error codes and recommended actions are included in analysis for clearer next steps when something is wrong.

Mobile & layout

  • Mobile layout is improved, including fixes for issues such as a footer that was hidden or hard to use on small screens.

[1.4.2] - 2026-04-15

Profile Updates & Reliability: This release ensures user profile updates work correctly when profiles are identified by email.

Profile Update Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where user profile updates could fail when the profile was located by email rather than user ID, ensuring profile changes are now saved consistently and reliably.

[1.4.1] - 2026-04-14

Access Control & Security: This release tightens permission scoping to ensure managers and admins only see resources they own, reducing unintended exposure.

Access Control Fixes

  • Restrict manager and admin users to only see their own invite codes and group libraries, fixing overexposure of resources.

[1.4.0] - 2026-04-10

🚀 Security, Administration & Everyday Usability: This release focuses on safer conversations, stronger admin controls, easier document access, and a smoother overall chat experience.

Safer AI Responses

Stronger Content Protection

  • Improved protection against requests for credentials or other sensitive internal information.
  • Assistant responses now go through an additional safety check to reduce accidental exposure of sensitive data.
  • Policy-violation messages now include a direct link to the Content Policy for clearer guidance.

Document Access & Log Analysis

Easier and Safer File Downloads

  • Download links for generated and uploaded documents are now created on demand, improving reliability and access control.
  • Context and analysis file links now open through secure app URLs, making downloads more consistent.

Better Log Analysis Readability

  • Log analysis now separates recent issues from older ones more clearly.
  • Issues older than 30 days are shown in a collapsible section, so reports are easier to scan while still preserving historical detail.

Administration & User Management

Expanded Admin/Manager Controls

  • Improved admin and manager flows for users, groups, invitations, libraries, and connector management.
  • Better role-scoped behavior helps ensure managers only act within their allowed scope.
  • The monthly unique users report now supports filtering by access group.

Default Knowledge Access

  • The default WALT knowledge library is now automatically available through the default access group.

Chat & Feedback Experience

Better In-App Experience

  • Added a release notes modal so users can quickly see what’s new after updates.
  • Feedback can now be edited or removed, giving users more control after submitting.
  • Minor chat and response quality updates improve consistency in citations and assistant behavior.

[1.3.2] - 2026-03-31

🔧 Log File Analysis & Background Uploads: This release brings several improvements to the log file analysis tool and introduces background document uploads with cancellation support.

Log File Analysis

Updated "Detected Issues" Label

  • The "Detected Issues" section in log file analysis reports is now labeled "Detected Issues within the last month" for clearer context on the time scope of reported issues.

Human-Readable Date Format

  • All dates in log file analysis reports (event log time frame, most recent issue dates) are now displayed in a human-readable YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss format instead of raw ISO timestamps.

Serial Number Extraction: Case-Insensitivity and Fallback

  • File matching for EVENT_LOG.CSV and VERSION.TXT inside ZIP and 7Z archives is now fully case-insensitive, improving compatibility with different archive structures.
  • If the INSTRUMENT_SN column is missing from the event log, it is automatically added as a fallback so validation always passes.

Software Version Extraction from VERSION.txt

  • The log file analysis tool now extracts the software version from VERSION.txt (in addition to the serial number) when available inside ZIP or 7Z archives.
  • Extracted values from VERSION.txt override pipeline-derived Instrument SN and Software Version, with the pipeline values kept as fallback when VERSION.txt data is unavailable.

Document Uploads

Background Upload and Cancellation Support

  • Documents now upload in the background, allowing you to continue navigating between chats without interrupting the upload process.
  • A global upload indicator shows the progress of all active uploads across chats.
  • You can cancel an in-progress upload, which also cleans up any partially uploaded files on the server.
  • Uploads that complete while you are viewing a different chat are automatically detected and attached when you return.

[1.3.1] - 2026-03-19

🐛 Stability Improvements: This release addresses critical issues affecting response reliability and agent performance.

  • Stateless Analysis: Every log search is now a fully isolated operation, ignoring previous chat history and disabling prompt rephrasing to ensure unbiased results.
  • Standardized Reporting: Overhauled WALT output to a strict, data-only format (Instrument Overview & Detected Issues) and filtered results to the last 30 days.
  • Improved Matching Logic: Generic actions (code-severity) now act as a "catch-all," applying to all matching errors regardless of whether they contain a specific subcode.
  • Automated Storage Cleanup: Implemented a post-processing trigger to automatically delete source files from S3 buckets once analysis is complete.

User Interface & Experience

  • Drag-and-Drop: Added a modern file upload area with visual feedback and automatic sequence triggers.
